Seasonal Tasks Checklist

Spring:

• Replace storm windows with screens
• Have service company check air conditioning system
• Clean or replace air conditioning filter
• Re-level any exterior steps or decks that may have shifted due to the home setting or winter temperatures
• Treat outdoor wood surfaces for splintering, cracking, raised nails
• Check and replace fire extinguishers

Summer:

• Deep clean carpets or rugs
• Remove any plants that come in contact with the home or when roots go under brick or siding
• Check for smooth opening and closing of windows - lubricate as necessary
• Check garage door hardware for proper operation
• Service lawnmowers or other outdoor lawn equipment and gardening tools

Fall:

• Have furnace or heating system serviced
• Vacuum baseboards to remove dust
• Replace window screens with storm windows
• Check doors to ensure they open and close properly, replace weather stripping as necessary
• Winterize landscape, store outdoor furniture, cover delicate plants for colder temperatures

Winter:

• Clean out gutters and downspouts
• Insulate pipes in crawl space and attic
• Check water hoses on washer, icemaker, and dishwasher for cracks or bubbles
• Check clean and/or replace furnace air filters
• Vacuum fire, smoke, or carbon monoxide detectors to keep dust or debris from interfering
• Check electrical cords, plugs, and outlets before using indoor or outdoor seasonal lights
